Pope Leo XIV is first American Pontiff

HISTORY HAS just been made as a first American Pope has been elected to lead the Roman Catholic Church.

Previously known as Cardinal Robert Prevost, he will now be known as His Holiness, POPE LEO XIV.

The new Pope, who hails from Chicago in the US, appeared in the balcony of the Vatican Thursday evening to a cheerful crowd.

He prayed fervently for the world and called for peace and unity as he blessed his predecessor, Pope Francis.

Pope Leo XIV, who is now the Bishop of Rome, also thanked Cardinals, who elected him to lead the 1.4 billion Romans in the world.

Meanwhile, US President Trump has  congratulated the new Pontiff for being the first American Pope and wished him well.
