The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has engaged all 24 registered transport unions, including the Pragia Riders Association, in a stakeholder meeting held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall to improve transport operations in Kumasi.

The forum, led by Metro Coordinating Director Mr. Francis Dwira Darko and Transport Sub-Committee Convenor Hon. Patrick Yeboah, provided a platform to discuss challenges such as traffic congestion, poor terminal management, indiscriminate loading, non-use of destination indicators, and road safety.

Speaking on behalf of the Mayor, Mr. Darko stressed the need for regular engagements to enhance service delivery and urged operators to comply with KMA by-laws and regularize their operations.

KMA’s Head of Transport, Mr. Randy Wilson, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to sanitizing the sector and called on union leaders to enforce approved fares and transport regulations.

The Head of Budget and Rating, Mr. Jones Kani, and the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Road Safety Authority, Mr. Kwasi Agyenim Boateng, also contributed, with Mr. Boateng urging compliance to save lives and improve business operations.

Participants commended KMA for the initiative, shared their challenges, and called for regular engagements and intensified monitoring to restore sanity in the industry.

The well-attended meeting ended with a renewed commitment from both the Assembly and the transport unions to collaborate towards a safe, efficient, and well-regulated transport system in Kumasi.
