The role of the Asantehemaa remains significant to Ghana’s development, particularly in preserving culture, promoting unity, and advancing social development, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo has said.
She made the remarks when she led about 40 women in leadership positions across government on a courtesy call on the Asantehemaa, Her Majesty Nana Yaa Akyaa II, at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, September 14, 2026.
Hon. Bampoe Addo eulogised the Asantehemaa, who she said embodies exemplary leadership, noting that their visit would inspire and empower them to give their all to national development.
“We look to you for leadership, mentorship, and counsel,” she said, expressing confidence in the Asantehemaa’s wisdom and guidance.
The delegation, comprising officials from the presidency, deputy ministers, members of parliament, chief executive officers, municipal and district chief executives, and NDC national and regional officials, called on Asantehemaa to wish her well and seek her blessings in their line of duty.
The distinguished women, who gladly exchanged pleasantries0 with Her Majesty individually, most of whom were visiting the Manhyia Palace and meeting the most powerful woman in the Asante Kingdom for the first time.
The Deputy Chief of Staff added that they also take inspiration from the bravery of the famous Nana Yaa Asantewaa, an Asante Queenmother of the ages who, against all odds, fiercely protected the Golden Stool from being taken away by the British.
She described her courage and sacrifice as an enduring inspiration for Ghanaian women in leadership.
The Asantehemaa, speaking through her linguist, expressed profound gratitude to the delegation for their visit and best wishes, and commended them for the honour done to her.
Notable among the delegation were Pamela Graham, Auditor-General; Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, Chief Fire Officer; COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department; Obuobia Darko-Opoku, CEO of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund; Getrude Emefa Donkor, CEO of Ghana Gold Board Jewellery; Felicia Adjei, Kintampo South MP; and Faustilove Appiah Kannin, Obuasi West MCE.
