MTN Ghana, as a gesture of contributing to health delivery in Ghana on Valentine’s Day set out to collect 6,100 pints of blood for health facilities across the country this year.
This target is an increase of 1,100 pints over last year’s exercise which collected 5,000 pints of blood.
Background:
For 14 years, the telecommunications giant has been mobilising blood nationwide as its own way of showing love to the public for its continuous patronage of the company.
About 29,000 pints of blood has since been collected through the exercise which initially saw staff of MTN donating blood for a worthy cause but now extended to senior high schools.
Ashanti Region Drive:
In the Ashanti Region, the company in collaboration with workers at the Blood Bank of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) organised blood donation exercises at KNUST Senior High School, Asanteman Senior High School and Bonwire Senior High.
Mr. Simon Amoh, Senior Manager, General Trade, MTN Northern Ghana, told the media on the sidelines of the exercise at KNUST SHS that expressing love comes in many forms, saying that MTN chose to save lives.
He said blood was critical to health delivery and that MTN’s way of showing love was to ensure people stayed healthy for the past 14 years.
“If people stay healthy that is when they are able to undertake economic activities and get commercial minds to patronise our products and services,” he noted.
According to him blood is priceless hence MTN’S contribution to various blood banks over the years had been impactful considering the live-saving role it plays in the health delivery system.
He said the company would continue to sustain the exercise which is in line with the health pillar of MTN Ghana Foundation.
