The Deputy Registrar in charge of the University Relations Office at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe has assured parents and families whose relatives are students on campus about their safety.
In a release copied to this outfit, Dr Bekoe pledged the University’s commitment to the wellbeing and safety of its students on campus.
Background:
Recalling a recent issue on campus, Dr Bekoe said some of its students who were returning from a programme organised by the International Programmes Office (IPO) were attacked by some individuals who joined a student procession.
The, incident, the Deputy Registrar said was unfortunate and regrettable, adding that management condemned same.
However, he assured parents as well as students and stakeholders that the school’s management was committed to stemming same.
He also urged students to strictly adhere to guidelines outlined in the students handbook, cautioning that a future refusal to comply would result in outright dismissal.
Investigations:
Meanwhile, Dr Bekoe disclosed that the University was in close collaboration with security agencies to swiftly identify and apprehended the alleged perpetrators.
Currently, he noted all stakeholders were assisting with investigation, assuring that those found culpable will face the full force of disciplinary and legal consequences.
He also noted that the Vice-Chancellor has met with the affected international students and reaffirmed the university’s unwavering commitment to their safety.
Counselling:
Furthermore, the Deputy Registrar mentioned that the KNUST Counselling Centre continues to provide comprehensive psychosocial support to all students affected by the incident.
“The Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) assures all parents, guardians, and the international community of its firm commitment to the safety, welfare, and well-being of all students, both local and international”, Dr Bekoe intimated.

Management, Dr Bekoe reiterated remained steadfast in fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
“We will continue to take proactive measures to prevent such occurrences in the future while strengthening our support systems to ensure every student feels secure on our campus”, Dr Bekoe stressed.
