The Wife of the Vice President of the Republic, Hajia Samira Bawumia on Tuesday, the 9th of January, 2024 joined women and traders at the Kumasi Central Market to share meals and to sit together.
Accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Women’s wing as well as some NPP functionaries including the regional organiser to the grounds, Mrs Samira in a resplendent blue dress with a headgear and shoes to match waved to the enthusiastic traders upon arrival some minutes after 1pm.
Addressing the gathering later, Mrs Samira said “despite being a Muslim i decided to share in the joy of your celebration of Christmas 🤶 and the New Year so that we could firm up the bond we share”.
The Second Lady assured the market queens and the traders that she would continue to pass on their concerns to the husband and think through solutions with him.
Request:
Mrs Samira asked the traders to join her in the upcoming campaign for election 2024 as the nation prepares to go to the polls in December to elect a new President and 275 Members of Parliament.
She noted that records show the New Patriotic Party (NPP) does better with governance as well as the handling of the economy than the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This, he she believes would be a factor in deciding who the populace should vote for on December 7.
“This year 2024 is an election year and on December 7, 2024 we would have the opportunity to choose the progress of the country against the retrogression we want to avoid and this would be a clear choice between the competent Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the leader of the opposition NDC but i am confident that together with you we will choose the NPP and hand over another term to it so as to continue with policies that would provide job security, employment for the youth and better living conditions for all in the country”, Mrs Samira stated.
Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser:
Addressing the market queens and traders from Krofrom, Bantama as well as others, Nana Ama Ampomah, the Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser commended the wife of the Vice President for organising and choosing to come personally to dine with the women groups and traders in the Central Market.
This, she noted is testament of the bond the Second Lady wants to deepen with the traders as well as all women in the country.
Madam Ampomah, who incidentally was celebrating her birthday same day, cautioned the traders to be wary of assigns of the NDC who in election years storm the trading arena to spread falsehood about the NPP.
“In 2008 despite the sterling performance of the John Agyekum Kufuor administration we allowed NDC people to spread falsehood about the NPP and this resulted in our defeat at the polls that year. So i urge you that having been beneficiaries of the sound policies of the NPP government you do all you can to campaign and also counter every false propaganda that is initiated here because we have great hopes that with Dr Bawumia as the next President we will see more and better development programs and policies for economic growth”, the Women’s leader stressed.
