Less than 1 minute Minutes

SOME SENIOR High School teachers with the name Modern Teachers For Development (MTFD) have pledged their support to the newly nominated Director-General for the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Eric Nkansah.

Addressing the media in Kumasi, Reverend Adu Berko, spokesperson for the group said from the background checks they had done the new DG fits the bill for the position he has been nominated for.

He stressed that the Asante Akyem native had been involved in education and had risen through the ranks to his current place as consultant.

‘’We want to thank the President for the nomination of Dr Eric Nkansah because from our checks he is a worthy replacement for the outgoing DG and we are sure that from his background in education he would help to shape the path of education in Ghana’’, the spokesperson stated.

Details:

The group said the earlier decision to contest and challenge the nomination of Dr Nkansah was without the approval of members of the GNAT, NAGRAT or Concerned Teachers Association of Ghana.

Reverend Berko noted that the leadership of their unions cannot usurp powers not given to them, adding that the stance taken earlier at a press conference is null and void.

The spokesperson noted their unflinching support to the newly appointed DG and commended the President for a good choice.

‘’The choice of Dr Nkansah is an excellent one and having taught Geography at Kintampo Senior High School from 2002 to 2006 we see ourselves as in the appointment of such a youthful person to the position of DG’’, Rev Berko posited.

Arguments:

The spokesperson rubbished the argument that Dr Nkansah hadn’t spent time teaching at the highest level so would not know the rudiments of the position well.

He said Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the former Education Minister is a known dentist but excellently led as education minister in policy formulation and implementation.

Reverend Berko intimated that having taught in an SHS before and known the school system for close to 15 years, Dr Nkansah was fit for the position nominated to occupy.

‘’We know Dr Nkansah would be confirmed by the President since he possesses every requisite qualification to hold that office as DG’’, the Spokesperson stressed.
