Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, has called for stronger partnership between the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to address challenges facing the city.

He noted that Kumasi is battling waste management, traffic, street lighting, poor infrastructure, and other technical challenges that can be solved if students and departments offer useful solutions.

He said research works from KNUST should be tailored to solving problems in the city so that, together wirh city authorities, they can create a serene environment to attract investors, create jobs, and enhance development.

Hon. Agyeman Boadi made the call on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, when he received a KNUST delegation led by new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christian Agyare.

He added that the city needs proper landscaping, reorganisation and technological advancement to meet modern standards, and urged both institutions to leverage Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s global tours to attract investors and innovations.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the Mayor for the warm reception and welcomed the proposal, expressing KNUST’s readiness for the partnership but requesting that it be formalised.

He was joined by Nana Ansah Sasraku III, Kyidomhene of Mamfe and Chairman of KNUST Alumni Endowment Fund, and Dr. Herman Addae, Global President of KNUST Alumni Association.
