In a resounding display of philanthropic dedication and institutional vision, the Global Alumni Association of the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has officially presented comprehensive scholarships to its second cohort of high-achieving, underprivileged students.
The ceremonial presentation took place during the auspicious launch of the 14th Global Biennial Congress and Alumni Homecoming, a premier gathering that celebrates the university’s rich legacy of academic excellence and global impact.
Alongside the scholarships, KNUST unveiled a groundbreaking Student Leaders Exit Mentorship Programme, an innovative framework designed to bridge the bridgeable gap between academic leadership and the competitive corporate world.
Financial Lifeline:
Speaking at the vibrant ceremony, the Director of Student Affairs, Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, emphasized that these twin initiatives serve a dual purpose, that is relieving the heavy weight of financial hardship for brilliant minds and offering structured, expert guidance for student leaders stepping into life after graduation.
Nine out of the ten distinguished beneficiaries in this second cohort received their awards in person.
Unlike standard bursaries, this enhanced support package offers a holistic lifeline, covering full tuition fees, comfortable campus accommodation, and a generous monthly stipend to ensure students can focus entirely on their academic pursuits.
“Our commitment remains steadfast: to ensure that no promising student is forced to abandon their academic dreams due to financial constraints,” Prof. Nkansah noted, highlighting the rigorous selection process coordinated through college recommendations, university counselors, and the Directorate of Student Affairs.
2026 Alumni Scholars:
The diverse group of beneficiaries represents some of KNUST’s most demanding and vital academic disciplines, reflecting the alumni association’s goal to empower future leaders across all sectors of the economy:
Lordina Nana Ama Ataa Mensah – Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
Precious Ayorkor Ashong – BSc Quantity Surveying & Construction Economics
Oppong Kyekyeku – BSc Quantity Surveying
Kingsley Johnson Yeboah – BSc Computer Engineering
Kwabena Koranteng – BSc Natural Resources Management
Ernestina Oppong – BSc Environmental Science

Gabriel Osei Danso – BSc Food Science & Technology
Dr. Herman Yobo Addae, Global President of the KNUST Alumni Association, personally assisted in conferring the awards, reaffirming the global alumni body’s commitment to giving back to their alma mater.
Shaping Future Leaders:
Beyond financial aid, the event marked a pivotal milestone in student development with the launch of the KNUST Student Leaders Exit
Mentorship Programme.
Commissioned following a strategic mandate from the KNUST University Council, the initiative establishes a formal steering committee to oversee the transition of student leaders into professional career paths.
Targeted Pilot Launch:
The initiative will initially focus on outgoing executives from the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), with a clear roadmap to expand to departmental heads, international student leaders, and campus executives.
Interactive Digital Platform:
A newly designed digital portal was launched to connect mentees and mentors seamlessly.
The platform enables student leaders to enroll, permits accomplished alumni worldwide to sign up as mentors, and allows the secretariat to evaluate progress in real time.
Career Preparedness:
Mentees will receive strategic career coaching, networking opportunities, and ethical leadership training to help them navigate the complex global job market.
Prof. Nkansah expressed high optimism for the future of the program, envisioning it as a transformative standard for higher education institutions across West Africa.
Legacy:
Founded in 1951, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) stands as Ghana’s premier science and technology university and a top-ranked institution across the African continent.
With tens of thousands of alumni working globally in engineering, health sciences, governance, and technology, the Global Alumni Association plays a vital role in funding infrastructure, funding research, and providing financial cushions for needy students.
This latest scholarship and mentorship drive underscores KNUST’s broader goal of nurturing not only academically sound graduates, but ethically grounded, work-ready leaders prepared to tackle modern societal challenges.
