HER ROYAL Majesty, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, easily stole the show at the Prempeh I International Airport during her historic visit to Kumasi on Wednesday.
The elegantly dressed Queen stunned onlookers as she majestically danced ‘Adowa’, a popular dance of the Asante tribe, on the tarmac few minutes after landing in Kumasi.
Queen Maxima is one of the most adored, respected and influential traditional leaders in Europe and the world at large.
Queen Maxima’s Visit
She was in Kumasi in the Ashanti regional capital to attend a sacred ‘Awukudae’ festival, which was being hosted by His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.
The visiting monarch was also expected to hold private talks with the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace, the official seat of the Asante Kingdom, after the ‘Awukudae’ festival.
Queen Maxima was officially welcomed to Kumasi at the airport by Nana Kwame Baffoe, the Paramount Chief of Nkoranza, who is traditionally the eldest son of Otumfuo.
As part of the activities to make her visit to Kumasi grand, some beautiful looking Asante ladies, who were dressed in ‘Kente’ clothes, danced ‘Adowa’ to entertain Queen Maxima.
‘Adowa’ Dance
From all indications the Netherlands Queen is a fast learner. Within few minutes, she perfectly learned how to dance the ‘Adowa’ as she joined the Asante ladies on the dancing floor.
Queen Maxima surprised people at the airport as she majestically displayed her ‘Adowa’ dancing skills. She moved her hands and legs perfectly to match the tunes being played.
The monarch’s beautiful dancing skills attracted wild applause from people at the airport, including the Nkoranza Paramount Chief, Nana Kwame Baffoe.
The visiting Queen was later taken to the Manhyia Palace in a convoy to meet Otumfuo.
Meanwhile, some of the people who witnessed the dancing skills of Queen Maxima at the airport, showered tons of praises on her.
They said her gesture shows that she respects every culture.
