A GHANAIAN in his mid-20’s, who benefited from a scholarship policy to study medicine in Cuba, has returned home to show appreciation to his “God sent” benefactor.
Dr. Randy Oppong Boachie stated that he benefited from a scholarship scheme from the then Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, about seven years ago.
He said he was financially handicapped at the time so his education was in great danger, but through the timely support of Dr. Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, he went to Cuba to be trained as medical doctor.
“Napo has made my dream of becoming a medical doctor a reality now and I’m grateful to him for his timely support, which has positively changed my life”, Dr. Oppong Boachie said with a smile.
The Cuban-trained medical doctor was speaking when he presented a touching Citation to Dr. Prempeh for his significant support during a short ceremony in Kumasi on Monday afternoon.
Napo, who is a former Education and Energy Minister, said politicians are meant to serve their people and change their lives for the better “and I’m happy that my work as MP in Manhyia South has changed a life”.
He admonished Dr. Oppong Boachie to also support other needy people in society so their lives can also be changed, saying “just as it was done for you, try your best and support others too”.
Napo said he doesn’t discriminate whenever he is extending a helping hand to someone in need, urging Dr. Oppong Boachie to emulate his shinning example and support people without discrimination.
The Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Secretary, Dr. Francis Adomako aka ‘Francois’, who was present at the function, lauded Napo for his tireless efforts in changing lives over the years.
“Napo has positively changed a lot of lives during his political career and he deserves to be commended and encouraged to do more for this country”, he said “Dr. Oppong Boachie learn from Napo”.
