KWAME BAFFOE, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a known critic of business mogul, Ibrahim Mahama, has finally eaten a humble pie as he has showered tons of praises on the accomplished entrepreneur for his positive contributions to the growth of the country.
The outspoken NPP top member, who is popularly known as ‘Abronye’ in political circles, without any tangible reasons, vehemently kicked against the idea of Engineers and Planners (E&P), owned by Ibrahim Mahama, taking over the Damang Mines some months ago.
But in what can be described as a sharp u-turn, Abronye has stated emphatically that his earlier statement that Ibrahim Mahama’s Engineers and Planners didn’t deserve to take over the Damang Mines was an unpardonable mistake and he has regretted his weird actions.
In a self-confession video on social media, which has been sighted by Press1News, Abronye said the massive developmental projects that Ibrahim Mahama’s company has brought to the Damang community to improve the lives of the people in a short time, has made him changed his mind about him totally.
According to him, what Ibrahim Mahama has done for the transformation of the Damang community within a short time of mining operations in the area, far overshadow what Newmont Ghana has done for Ahafo Kenyase during 22 years of mining operations there.
“I strongly kicked against Ibrahim Mahama taking over the Damang Mines but recent reports indicate that the developmental projects that Ibrahim has brought to the Damang community in few months far outweigh what Newmont has done for Ahafo Kenyase in 22 years.
“Ibrahim’s splendid works for Damang community if you compare it to what I witnessed at Ahafo Kenyase when I visited the place recently then we have to give our gold mines to Ghanaians because they can do better job than the foreigners who are dominating our mining sector”.
Continuing, he indicated that “Three weeks ago I went to Ahafo Kenyase and what I saw was an eyesore. Because of what Ibrahim has done for Damang community, I think it’s time we do away with the foreigners as a country. Let’s give our gold concessions to Ghanaians”.
Abronye also recounted how he objected to Ibrahim Mahama taking over the Nyinahin Bauxite in Ashanti region some years ago, noting that the positive things that he has heard from Damang recently has made him changed his mind about Ibrahim and Ghanaian miners in general.
“We should go by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s suggestion that our gold should be refined in Ghana. Ibrahim’s positive works at Damang clearly shows that Ghanaians with the requisite capacity, when given the chance, can perform better”, he stated.
