Authorities at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) have announced plans to digitise key areas of revenue collection, moving Business Operating Permits (BOP) and daily tolls to a cashless system starting September 2026.
Management of KMA has indicated that the digitisation drive will cover BOP or licenses, as well as daily tolls for markets, transport terminals, and parking fees.
According to KMA, starting September 15, payment for BOP or licenses will be 100% digital.
With regards to BOP, business owners will receive a bill notice directly on their phones with a link.
Payment is made by tapping on the link, and in seconds, it is completed.
For daily tolls, payments will be made at KMA officers using a Point of Sale (POS) device.
Payers will receive an instant printed receipt as proof of payment to the assembly.
A pilot of the new revenue payment system will begin on August 17 at Racecourse Market.
During the pilot phase, daily toll payments will be made exclusively through POS devices.
The Assembly also announced that a registration exercise is currently underway to enable daily toll payers to migrate to digital payment and keep personal records of their transactions.
The full rollout across all markets, transport stations, and parking areas in Kumasi is scheduled for January 1, 2027.
