A two-day capacity building programme labelled “Next Generation Leadership Training” for assembly members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has ended.

It was held at the Royal Lamerta Hotel from August 10 to August 11, 2026.

The programme was organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), and Institute of Local Government Studies(ILGS) with support from KMA.

Assembly members were schooled on topics such as by-laws, leadership, decentralisation laws, and corporate governance, among others.

The NALAG President, Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei, at the opening of the training programme, advised assembly members to take advantage of the training to demonstrate quality leadership and ensure accountability.

He stressed that “money and investments in the Assembly under their oversight must produce value.”

He was of the view that “local government is the bedrock of national development” and urged members to work responsibly and prioritise their electorates’ interests.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi expressed gratitude to ILGS facilitators, confident that participants would function effectively to satisfy government and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong also urged assembly members to put the knowledge acquired into practice to enhance local governance in the metropolis.

Each participant received a certificate and souvenirs at the close of the programme.
