Kumasi High School Unveils 60th Anniversary Cloth At Easter Games

The Planning Committee of the Kumasi High School 60th anniversary celebration on Saturday unveiled the official cloth for the grand durbar event to be held in July, 2024.

At a simple ceremony that preceded the first ever year group games on the school’s campus, Chairman of the Committee, Abrante3 Reverend Peter Owusu Mensah, together with Mr Samuel Obeng, and the Global President of the Old Boys, Mr Isaac Nketia Sarpong as well as the Headmaster of Kumasi High, Mr Benjamin Tawiah Twum carried out the symbolic unveiling.

Dominated by a deep brown colour at the background with the Kumasi High School crest embossed with some shades of light blue marking to spice up, the cloth looked resplendent.

Speaking succinctly at the unveiling event, Abrante3 Rev Adu Mensah urged all year groups to purchase their pieces on time since the climax of the activities was in three months time.

He noted there would be a symposium, a clean up exercise and a blood donation exercise as well as a dinner before the grand durbar at the school campus in July.

Games:

Showing profuse enthusiasm in the year group competitions, each group presented selected persons for Play Station football, five aside football, sack race, lime and spoon as well as table tennis.

Making an exciting appearance were the year groups of 74, 75 and 78 whose members still looked healthy though aged.

In the end, the 2004 year group won both the lime and spoon as well as the sack race games.

The 2007 year group won the Play station games.

In the football event, the 2000 year group took home the glittering trophy as winners with the 2011 year group finishing as runners up.

However, the 97 year group consisting of Dr Goodman Sarfo, Edmund Ankomah, Abrante3 Od33fuo and Abrante3 Wadie as well as others put up spectacular and scintillating performances winning three matches on the trot to make it to the semi-finals.

There were special recognition trophies to best goalkeeper, best player, with the 1984 to 86 year group taking home the fair play trophy as well as Abrante3 Samuel Obeng, Isaac Nketia Sarpong, Kingsley Agyemang also getting special trophies for their commitment to the progress of Kumasi High School.

Spicing up the games with incisive commentary and updates were Abrantewa Lydia Martin, Assistant Headmistress at Adventist Senior High School and Abrante3 Isaac Owusu, Broadcaster and Management Consultant.

Appreciation:

Abrante3 Samuel Obeng popularly known as “Agya Beng” commended the organisers
for using the games to rekindle the spirit of the school in former students of Kumasi High School.

He asked the old boys to keep up the spirit and show same passion towards other activities lined up before the climax of the celebrations in July.

On his part, Abrante3 Isaac Nketia Sarpong popularly known as “Sapee”, Global President of KUHIS Old Boys (Mmerante3) urged all year groups to donate towards the project initiated to mark the 60th anniversary.

He also rallied the old boys to keep the bond between themselves tight so as to collectively work to improve themselves and that of Kumasi High School, their alma mater.
