Medical Director at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr Kwadwo Sarbeng on behalf of the CEO, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah on Tuesday morning received cheques totalling GhC 125, 000 from Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Board Members of the College of Health Sciences and the Colleges Provost.

The Management contributed GHC100, 000 .00, with the Board Members of the College of Health Sciences supporting with GHC 15, 000.

The Provost also made a personal donation of GHC 10, 000.00 towards the KATH renovation project.

Details:

Presenting the cheques to the Medical Director, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences at KNUST, Professor Christian Agyare said the University was committed to supporting the renovation project.

“The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the College of Health Sciences are aware of the renovation works being done here and this donation from us is testament to our hope of seeing the only premier health facility renovated to international standards”, the Provost stated.

Appreciation:

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the CEO, Dr Kwdwo Sarbeng, Medical Director at KATH thanked the management of KNUST as well as the Board Members of the College Of Health Sciences and the Provost for the gesture.

He noted that the kindness displayed shows the commitment the university has in helping to renovate KATH to a befitting status.

Currently, he stated that over 90% of students who are trained in the medical sciences at KNUST are attached to KATH.

“The Management of KATH is grateful for this gesture and we are committed to strengthening the partnership we have with the university so that together we could succeed and provide the best of services and care to patients at this health facility”, the Medical Director stated.

Tour:

Leading a tour of the visting team and some media persons to the “A” Block where renovation works were ongoing, Chairman of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKaP), Mr Sammy Adu Boakye thanked the KNUST team for visiting.

He thanked them for the donation and promised that the project would be delivered to expectation.

Mr Adu Boakye, however said since the hospital does not have the luxury of evacuating all the patients at the 4 blocks at the hospital, it was doing a phased approach of renovation so that they could move patients to some created sections at the hospital.

“Due to lack of space to move patients at the various blocks and wards to, we are using phased approach to relocate patients to safe places and this would mean the variation of the completion date which was initially set for 24 months to 36 months as we speak”, the Chairman disclosed.

Clarification:

The Chairman also used the opportunity to clarify that apart from the special hospital tiles that had a warranty of 10 years which the management purchased from outside Ghana every other item or building material would be purchased locally.

He also noted that the Hospital was relying on local expertise and human resources to accomplish the task ahead of it.
