The irate-looking TESCON members at the press conference
STORY
THE STUDENTS Wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), have raised red flag against the Ashanti Regional NPP elections, scheduled for Saturday.
Barely 24 hours to the polls, the group is alleging that the TESCON album for the elections is fraudulent, with ‘ghost’ names flooding the document.
The irate student group insists they have credible evidence suggesting that the processes to the Ashanti Region NPP polls is marred with fraud.
They have therefore vehemently rejected the TESCON album for the polls, appealing to party leaders to sit up by ensuring that the right thing is done to ensure peace.
Voters Album Delay
For a considerable period, aspirants in the Ashanti Regional NPP contest have made requests to the party leadership, regarding the release of the voters album.
Their persistent calls for an early release of the election album for scrutiny, always fell on deaf ears.
The album was, however, eventually released less than 24 hours to the election but with some key names missing.
TESCON Spits Fire
At an emergency press confab at the Catering Rest House in Kumasi today (Friday), the TESCON leaders claim the album for Saturday’s polls doesn’t capture some names that the TESCON president provided to the party.
“Infact, after thorough scrutiny, 35 anomalies have been detected in the album, ie; many of the supposed delegates are not students of the said schools.
“Some are past TESCON members who are no more in the school and others totally unknown to TESCON. Many ghost names are found in the album.
“As we speak, we have received names of people who are not members of TESCON, some of whom are nurses and former students”.
Clinton Adjei Anaman, the Ghana Baptist University TESCON President, uttered the above remarks to journalists during the conference.
He alleged that some unaccredited institutions have surprisingly found their way into the album, with assigned delegates.
“Members of the media, the following institutions have emerged as unaccredited TESCON institutions but have found its way into the album with assigned delegates:
Newman College of Health
Kessben Adum Campus
Global College of Aviation
Oxford School of Journalism
Ghana Baptist University college, Abuakwa.
However, Adjei Anaman said Kumasi Nursing and Midwifery Training College, which is accredited, has been excluded.
With a grim face, he said “Based on this we wholly reject the supposed delegates list, it is not credible, it is fraudulent and not a true representation of the TESCON.
“We request that those of our leaders of TESCON who have so far been meeting with aspirants, and based on the established convention since 2010 be reinstated as the delegates to the Regional conference come tomorrow, Saturday, 2022”.
