A MOMO vendor in Kumasi has been cruelly murdered in his room at Kwadaso Old Soldiers Residence by some suspected robbers, who stole his undisclosed amount of money and mobile phone.
The now deceased young man, identified as Gideon Owusu Sarpong, operated his mobile money services at the Race Course in Kumasi. He was said to have gone missing for two days
This prompted his co-worker, one James Andzie, a resident of Oforikrom, also in Kumasi, to visit Sarpong’s house at Kwadaso Old Soldiers Residence on March 10, 2025, to check what was wrong with his friend.
To his shock, he was met with a bad scent and houseflies around the window of Sarpong’s room. Sensing danger, James then quickly reported the case to Suntreso District Police in Kumasi, who accompanied him to the house.
“Police, on receipt of the complaint, proceeded to the scene and detected a foul smell from the victim’s bedroom. The metal gate was locked from the outside with a padlock.
“The door was forced open, and the body of Gideon Owusu Sarpong was found lying in a pool of blood on his bed, with multiple stab wounds to his leg, left shoulder, neck, and face.
“His hands and legs were tied with yellow rubber ropes, and his mouth was sealed with sellotape”, a Suntreso District Police statement, which the DAILY GUIDE has seen, disclosed
Investigations, it said “revealed that the victim was a mobile money agent at Race Course. His merchant SIM contained an unspecified amount, and his iPhone was suspected to have been taken away by the perpetrators”.
The police said they searched the room thoroughly and recovered a kitchen knife and a face mask as exhibits, adding that the body was conveyed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Morgue for preservation and autopsy.
