The unfortunate situation, aroused the attention of some sections of the public especially social media users who heard that a patient had been denied using the urinal at the OPD because she failed to pay for same.

When this reporter contacted the CEO, Prof Addai-Mensah indicated his surprise at the situation but promised to work to reverse the practice.

Confirmation of Reversal:

Speaking to Press1News on Wednesday morning, Prof Addai-Mensah confirmed the cancellation of the old practice.

He said patrons and visitors would now be able to use the place without having to pay

He however asked patrons do their best to keep the place clean at all times.

As an additional measure, the CEO said janitors would be on standby to clean the place periodically.

This, he noted would make the place tidy and hygienic for patrons who visit the OPD during the hours of operation.

Reactions:

Speaking to this reporter, Sabbath Marfo, a UK based clinician commended the CEO for acting proactively.

He noted that the earlier practice was unthinkable and as a premier hospital authorities should have known that some patients may come there even when they do not have money.

Lawrencia Ampem Darko, a broadcaster on Spirit fm said the decision by the CEO and management was spot on.

She wondered why patrons were being burdened with such a demand for the use of the washrooms and urinals.
