TWELVE PEOPLE are reported dead following a gory road accident involving three vehicles at the Konongo Anglican Basic School area on the Kumasi-Accra highway.

The deceased included 8 male adults, three females, and a young boy, who is believed to be five years old.

Several others also sustained varying degrees of injuries and were convey to the Steward Hospital in Yawkwai for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the mortuary.

According to reports, the accident, which happened around 11pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, involved a DAF Cargo truck, from Kumasi to Accra, loaded with tomatoes, a commercial bus carrying passengers from Accra to Kumasi, and an empty fuel tanker.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the DAF cargo truck tried to overtake another car and lost control, colliding head-on with the commercial bus, which was from the Accra area.

The driver of the empty fuel tanker, perhaps, did not see the accident on time as he unfortunately drove his vehicle into the already collided cargo truck and the passenger bus.

The deafening sound that the accident made attracted scores of curious people to the scene, who managed to transport the injured people to the hospital for immediate medical care.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service and the National Ambulance Service were deployed to the scene to rescue trapped victims.

The crash brought traffic on the busy Kumasi-Accra Highway to a standstill for several hours as emergency responders and security personnel carried out rescue and recovery operations.

At the time of filing the report on Thursday afternoon, there were reports that 13 people survived the crash.

Meanwhile, the Konongo police in the Ashanti Region are said to have commenced investigations to unearth what caused the accident.
