A delegation of female Members of Parliament from the Minority Caucus paid a courtesy call on the newly enstooled Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyiaa II, on Saturday to extend their congratulations on her ascension to the revered stool and seek her blessings and guidance.

Led by Hon. Patricia Appiagyei (MP for Asokwa and Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament), the delegation comprised Hon. Damata Ama Appianimaa Salam (Afigya Kwabre South), Hon. Ida Adjoa Asiedu (Ayensuano), Hon. Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz (Savelugu), Hon. Gloria Owusu (Trobu), Hon. Shirley Kyei (Atwima Nwabiagya South), and Hon. Adelaide Ntim (Nsuta-Kwaman-Beposo).

Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Appiagyei commended the Asantehemaa’s enstoolment, describing it as a moment of great pride for both the Asante Kingdom and the nation.

Highlighting gender disparities in governance, she noted that the Minority Caucus currently includes only ten female MPs, a figure she described as starkly inadequate.

However, she expressed optimism that the recent passage of the Affirmative Action Act would boost female representation in Parliament and inspire more women to pursue leadership roles.

She emphasized that the visit aimed not only to celebrate the Queen Mother’s elevation but also to draw upon her wisdom and seek her spiritual backing as they discharge their legislative duties.

Responding through her linguist, Nana Yaa Akyiaa II warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed her appreciation for the visit.

She described the meeting as timely and crucial for strengthening ties between traditional authority and female parliamentarians.

The Asantehemaa urged the lawmakers to remain steadfast in their duties, uphold integrity and excellence in public service, and serve as exemplary ambassadors of Ghanaian tradition.

Assuring them of her continued support, she pledged her assistance whenever needed.

She also called for sustained engagement between the Minority female MPs and the Manhyia Palace to deepen mutual collaboration.
