A 19 YEAR old suspected phone thief, who attacked his victim with a machete after robbing him of his mobile phone, has been arrested

Suspect Ahmed Mustapha after committing the crime, reportedly, sought refuge in an uncompleted building in a desperate attempt to avert arrest.

He was nabbed from his hideout by the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team at 12:20am on July 21, 2026, few minutes after committing the crime.

Police said they had information that a male adult had been robbed of his mobile phone and was lying unconscious near the Presbyterian Church, Asabi.

“The patrol team proceeded immediately to the scene. Upon seeing the police, the suspect fled and
hid in an uncompleted building. He was pursued and arrested.

“The suspect was identified as Ahmed Mustapha, aged 19 years”, Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs Unit, Ashanti regional police command, said in a statement.

“A search conducted on the suspect “led to the retrieval of the complainant’s mobile phone and a machete, both of which have been retained as exhibits”, he said.

The suspect, he said, is in police custody assisting with investigations, noting that the victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck, and left hand.

“He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where he was admitted and is receiving treatment. At about 5:30am on the same date, the victim was visited at the hospital.

“He had regained consciousness, was in a stable condition, and continues to receive medical care under observation”, Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo said.
