Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 16th Asantehene, will deliver a special lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Organizers describe the address as a historic link between African royal tradition and Black American academic excellence.

Founded in 1867 to educate the descendants of formerly enslaved people, Howard is regarded as the intellectual capital of Black America.

The university has produced prominent figures such as Thurgood Marshall, Kamala Harris, and Toni Morrison.

University officials say the lecture reflects Howard’s global role and the broader HBCU mission of advancing Black intellectual and political leadership.

They added that the event carries deep symbolic weight, highlighting cultural and ancestral ties between Africa and the diaspora rather than just political ones.

The lecture also aligns with the theme of the Millennium Excellence Awards America 2026, “the return of the throne to its descendants,” and is expected to draw dignitaries, alumni, students, and diplomats.
