Timely Fire Service Response Prevents Major Damage in Adum Fire

The Ghana National Fire Service’s swift response prevented a fire at Adum, Kumasi’s business hub, from escalating into a major disaster.

The fire, which broke out at Pat Thomas Phones Shop at 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, was contained before it could cause extensive damage.

The shop is on the ground floor of a two-storey building that also houses several businesses, warehouses, and a private kindergarten.

Four shops selling electronics, phones, and phone accessories were affected, though millions of cedis’ worth of goods were saved.

ACFO I Peter Tetteh, Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, said the team responded at the early stages and contained the fire within an hour.

He noted that the fire destroyed one shop converted into a warehouse and spread to three other shops, while commending firefighters for their professionalism and dedication.

NADMO Metro Director Mr. Godwin Dela confirmed the cause remains unknown and added that some firefighters were briefly engulfed by flames but continued working to control the blaze.
