THERE WAS tight security at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the venue of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Executive Election on Saturday.
Scores of uniformed policemen were seen standing at vantage points at the spacious stadium, ostensibly to ensure that there was law and order at the party event.
Some of the policemen, who were heavily armed, were seen standing at the main entrance of the stadium, providing adequate security to make the event peaceful.
The policemen, according to reports, were stationed there to ensure that only accredited people, including delegates, journalists, and other officials would be given access to the venue.
The security men, who were looking very alert, were particularly seen thoroughly searching the delegates before they granted them permission to enter the stadium.
The paper also learnt that some of the police men were strategically stationed at the various car parks around the stadium to prevent criminals from operating there.
According to reports, some of the police men were also stationed at the various hostels and accommodation facilities in Kumasi where the NPP delegates were housed.
A police source, who didn’t want to be identified by the paper, disclosed that hundreds of policemen in uniform and mufti, were at the stadium to provide tight security.
According to him, the police were determined and combat ready to deal ruthlessly with anyone who would try to cause confusion to disrupt the election process.
As a reminder, there were initial reports that a staggering number of three thousand policemen were earmarked to provide security during the NPP national executive polls.
