Teachers’ Conditions Worse Under Mahama Administration—- Dr. Francis Adomako

Less than 1 minute

The living standards of Ghanaian educators have dropped significantly under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration compared to the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, according to Dr. Francis Adomako, the NPP Ashanti Regional Secretary.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Wednesday, Dr. Adomako stated that nearly two years into President John Dramani Mahama’s term, the government has failed to fulfill its manifesto promises to the education sector.

Dr. Adomako cited several unkept promises, including:

Teacher Licensure Exams:
Retained despite pledges to abolish them, alongside increased registration fees.

Auto Import Relief:

Unfulfilled promises regarding low-interest car loans and reduced import taxes for teachers.

Stalled Career Advancement: Promotions for teachers who earned higher qualifications have been halted.

Unpaid Allowances:
Long-overdue work entitlements and salary arrears remain unpaid.

College Meal Cuts:

Meal provisions at teacher training colleges have reportedly been reduced from three daily meals to one.

“It is deeply troubling that almost two years into President Mahama’s administration, not a single promise made to teachers in the NDC manifesto has been honored,” Dr. Adomako said, backing the ongoing strike by teacher unions as a justified response to government neglect.

The statements follow a two-week nationwide strike by teacher unions over unpaid allowances and delayed entitlements.

Recent talks between union representatives, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the Ministry of Education reached a deadlock, with teachers refusing to resume work without a firm payment roadmap.
