‘Pulele’ Gets Third Term As PM Without Sweat

ELLIOT FOSU Barnor popularly knows as “Pulele” has won a third term bid as Presiding Member for the Asokwa Municipal Assembly. 

Garnering 18 votes from the 18 members who voted during a confirmation exercise, the Human Resource Management expert posted a 100% record.

Mr Barnor, Assembly member for the Kuwait-Oti-Aprabo electoral area until today had won the bid as PM on two occasions.

However,  today’s election victory came without a sweat from the vocal PM.

Exactly 10am, proceedings at the Asokwa Municipal Assembly conference room was commenced with the Coordinating Director, Mr Samuel Owusu-Mensah Presiding.

Having spelt out the purpose of the meeting and introduced the dignitaries for the occasion including the Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Member of Parliament, three Presiding Members from Oforikrom, KMA and Kwadaso as well as the Chief Executive of the Metro Mass Transit Company and a representative from the National Association of Local Assemblies (NALAG), the Director handed proceedings over to the Electoral Commission (EC) to commence tbe business of the day.

Oscar Riches, Assembly member for Old Asokwa in a dramatic style, picked a nomination form to contest for the PM position despite no indication before the commencement of the meeting.

He, however, before polls rescinded his decision and offered support to Mr. Barnor to go unopposed.

Results:

Announcing results of the polls after calling the elected assembly members one after the other as well as the government appointees, the EC officer said all the 18 eligible persons had voted ‘Yes’ to confirm Mr Barnor as PM.

Missing at the meeting was the Chirapatre Assembly member who is reported to have travelled outside Ghana.

Her Worship, Efua Densi Asare Kyere, Asokwa District Court Judge, swore in the elected PM into office thus making Mr Barnor the first person to be elected as PM and attaining such feat three times in a row since the inauguration of Asokwa as a Municipal Assembly.

Dignitaries:

MCE for Asokwa, Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah commended the Assembly members for endorsing the PM in a smooth manner.

He rallied them to support the PM to achieve the target the Asokwa Assembly has set for itself.

Member of Parliament:

Madam Patricia Appiagyei on her part commended the Assembly for showing faith in the same PM on three occasions.

She therefore urged them to continue in same spirit to ensure the Assembly continues to chalk feats that would put it in the limelight for positive news.

Presiding Member:

He called on them for support so as to deliver the mandate handed down to him.

Mr Barnor commended the MP and MCE for the confidence they have in him and providing support since he was elected PM.

“I am grateful to the people of Asokwa who are represented in this house by elected Assembly members as well as the MP and MCE and I promise to do all within my power as PM to push the development agenda forward”, Mr. Barnor stated.
