STORY

BERNARD ANTWI Boasiako’s hopes of retaining his seat as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), seems to have hit the rocks.

Famous Ghanaian Pollster, Ben Ephson, insists it will be extremely difficult for Antwi Boasiako, nicknamed in political circles as ‘Wontumi’ to garner enough votes to retain his position.

According to him, Wontumi seemed to have taken his party members in the NPPs stronghold of the Ashanti Region for granted for a long time so the party delegates will surely reject him.

Ben Ephson, who claimed to have monitored the upcoming Ashanti Regional NPP polls, predicted that the elections seemed to favour Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, another top aspirant.

“I have monitored the upcoming Ashanti Regional NPP elections as part of my seventh book that I am currently writing about Ghanaian Elections”, he said on Hello FM in Kumasi.

Ben Ephson said even though Wontumi is popular in the Ashanti Region, he doesn’t command enough support from the NPP delegates, who have voting rights to determine who will be the next party chairman.

According to him, Wontumi seemed to have taken his party members for granted for quite a long time as he (Wontumi) has failed woefully to deliver on his numerous promises to them.

“The Ashanti Region is the heartbeat of the NPP and Wontumi as the chairman has failed to fulfill some key promises that he made in the past to the party members there.

“For instance, he promised a permanent regional headquarters building for the NPP in Kumasi and he failed to fulfill it. He ended up renting a place instead to serve as NPP regional office”.

Unfortunately for Wontumi, he said “the party was recently ejected from the rented regional office building by the landlady due to unpaid rent, and all these things are working against him”.

Ben Ephson, who is noted for giving accurate election predictions especially about Ghana elections, said from all indications Wontumi’s days in office seemed numbered.

“Our monitoring shows it will be tough for Wontumi if he decides to once again contest for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship position of the NPP”, he boldly predicted.
