MTN Ghana Launches MoMo Season in Kumasi.

MTN Ghana’s famous financial transactions platform Mobile Money (Momo) is 14 years this year, 2023.

As part of the celebrations marking the milestone, the company launched what it has christened MTN Momo Season with August being the month for same.

Some regions of the country including Greater Accra, Northern Region, Eastern and Central Region as well as Ashanti were chosen for the main launch.

Speaking at the Ashanti Regional version of the Momo season launch on Friday, Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manager (GM) of MTN Northern Business District said, “mobile money has enhanced the quality of life of the people in Ghana”.
He noted that apart from the convenience the platform presents, MoMo has ensured security and safety in trading.

Mr Adotey said the momo platform continue to provide easy way of doing business.

Rather than carrying money or cartying same on oneself or by the use of vehicles, the GM said same amount or more could be sent by the use of the transfer system on the MOMO platform.

Travellers, who risked being robbed because they were carrying money do not need to carry cash on themselves, the GM told traders at the Kejetia arena.

“As traders in this market you do not need to carry money on yourself for anything from the house but once you have it sitting on your phone you cam transact any financial business with your customers or partners”, the GM stated.

Fraud:

Mr Adotey Mingle said mobile money fraud was a bother to MTN Ghana.

He noted that the company has therefore increased its awareness creation efforts and also the engagement with the security agencies including the cyber crime department to fish out those involved in those illegal activities.

Currently, he noted that MTN has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Economic and Organised Crime Organisation (EOCO) to enable them tackle and deal with all fraud related issues on the Momo platform.

“I must say that upon all the strategies and measures we are taking to reduce the incidences of crime and fraud the surest security is to keep your momo lin codes to yourself and not divulging it to anyone else”, the GM intimated.

Experiences:

Madam Adwoa Afriyie,  a trader in onion said she had for the past 14 years enjoyed using the Momo platform and travels to do business carrying money on herself.

“I make payments to my trading partner using the Momo platform and I also receive money from customers through same means”, Madam Afriyie with a smile noted.

Anokye Frimpong,  a footwear dealer noted the importance of MOMO to hos business since he pays via same mode anytime he has to buy more from his partner.

“With cash on my phone I pay for the school fees of my wards, the utility bills of my home and do some shopping online for my wife in Accra despite I being a Kumasi resident”, he stated.
