KMA PM urges assembly members to prioritise committee work

Less than 1 minute

The maxim that “Assembly work is done in committees” has been reiterated by the Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong.

He expressed worry over assembly members’ lackadaisical attitude toward attending Sub-Committee meetings, emphasising that their contribution is mostly felt at the committee level.

He said poor attendance and lateness at their various committee meetings would only retard the development of the Assembly.

Hon. Kwame Frimpong, who is also the Assembly Member for Krofrom East Electoral Area, made the advice in his preliminary remarks at a General Assembly meeting held on August 5, 2026, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall.

He noted that assembly members play a crucial role in local governance and development, and should remain dedicated to the business of the Assembly.

He emphasised that at the committee level, critical issues relating to the development of their electoral areas are discussed before being forwarded to the Executive Committee or an Authority Committee for onward submission to the General Assembly for a final decision.

The KMA Presiding Member appealed to assembly members and conveners to function effectively at the Sub-Committee level so that their contribution to development would be adequately felt by the Assembly and the city.

He also appealed for the review and prompt payment of allowances for assembly members to motivate them to give their best toward exercising their mandate as prescribed by the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
