THE IGP, George Akuffo Dampare, is set to travel to Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, anytime soon.

He is making the important trip to personally assess the riots at the Islamic SHS in Kumasi today.

As a reminder, armed police men fired tear gas to disperse students, who had blocked the Abrepo to Bohyen road.
Some of the students collapsed and they were rushed to the medical facilities in the city to save their lives.
The students had infamously stormed the streets in protest against frequent accidents in front of their school.

“The IGP is proceeding to Kumasi for a first-hand assessment of the situation”, a police statement stated.

The release was authored by DCOP Kwesi Ofori, Director General, Public Affairs, on Monday, June 13, 2022.

It said students of the Islamic SHS at Abrepo took to the streets and blocked a busy road on Monday morning.

“The students were protesting against frequent accidents in front of their school” the police indicated.

The police managed to disperse the rioting students and calm has since been restored in the school.

The police said some of their men sent to the place to restore law and order unfortunately sustained injuries.
“Some of the students and some police officers have since been taken to the hospital for medical attention”.

The release said investigations into the riots were ongoing but the IGP wants to personally assess the situation.
