AN ACCRA-bound bus, reportedly, ran over a 64-year-old motor rider at the Anloga intersection in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti Region, leading to the rider’s death.
The deceased, identified by the police as Baba Nuhu Abdallah, has been deposited in the mortuary as the police investigate the case.
According to a police report, sighted by the paper, Nuhu Abdallah was earlier on knocked down by another vehicle and was lying in the middle of the road.
The bus driver, James Oppong, did not see Nuhu Abdallah lying on the road, so he ran his bus over the motor rider.
The incident happened at a section of Anloga Intersection, Asokwa New Road, around 4:30pm on January 27, 2024, the police have reported.
According to a police document, the Scania Marcopolo bus was from Adum, Kumasi heading towards Accra.
“On reaching a section of the road at Anloga 007 intersection, Asokwa New Road Kumasi, around 4:30pm, the aforementioned suspect driver ran over rider Baba Nuhu Abdallah, aged 64 years, then in charge of unregistered Yamaha motor, alleged to have been earlier knocked down by unknown vehicle in the middle of the road.
“The said rider resultantly sustained serious injuries and died on the spot,” the police report disclosed, adding that the dead body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue for autopsy.
The report further stated that the suspect driver was quickly arrested and kept in police custody, noting that the accident vehicle and the motorbike have also been impounded as investigations are underway.
