Ten thousand and sixteen candidates in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly are sitting for the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at 35 examination centres.
According to the Kumasi Metro Education Directorate, 5,230 girls representing 52%
and 4,786 boys are writing the exam in hopes of securing admission to senior high school.
Of the total, 6,807 candidates are from 95 public schools while 3,209 are from 145 private schools, with four candidates reported absent without reason.
Madam Felicia Owusu Agyemang, Deputy Director of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, led a team from the KMA and Metro Education Directorate to visit nine examination centres on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
During the visit, she urged candidates to remain calm and focused, and encouraged officials to carry out their duties professionally while discouraging examination malpractice.
She also expressed confidence that the candidates would perform well and advised them to answer questions carefully so that examiners can assess their scripts accurately.
