DR. MAHAMADU Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2028 presidential candidate, has virtually made mockery of President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership style.
He said Mr. Mahama while in opposition, made countless promises to create jobs and improve livelihoods when elected as president, but he is rather doing the otherwise now.
Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President for eight years in the NPP government, said President Mahama has not only failed to create jobs, but he is also destroying existing jobs.
He particularly descended heavily on President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) famous 24 hour economy promise, which has now turned to be hoax.
“The 24 hour economy has been turned into 24 hour demolition”, the NPP flagbearer said at the NPP national delegates conference, held in Kumasi on Saturday.
He said the NDC said under their government, there would be three shifts for one work, but that has not been done so far, adding that legitimate businesses are rather being destroyed.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the NDC administration has targeted to destroy businesses owned by people they deemed as their political opponents without justification.
The former Vice President lambasted the NDC government for their weird action of terrorizing their political opponents, urging them to stop “since we don’t built a nation that way”.
He also pointed out that almost all the promises that President Mahama and the NDC made before the 2024 elections to woo the voters have turned out to be a mirage.
For instance, the NPP leader said the Women’s Development Bank, which was promised by the NDC has not been fulfilled, adding that the ‘‘Nkoko Nketenkete policy has also failed”.
“This NDC government is failing to fulfill its promises to the people”, Dr. Bawumia indicated, adding that nothing is going on in the country since President Mahama assumed power.
He stated that the incompetent and weak leadership of President Mahama-led NDC administration led to the country suffering an unprecedented gold sale losses in 2025.
According to Dr. Bawumia, virtually all the key sectors in the country are suffering now due to the government’s poor delivery, noting that the country needs the NPP to save it.
Touching on the health sector, he said the NPPs brilliant idea of introducing the Agenda 111 policy to make healthcare delivery easily accessible to the people has been neglected.
“The Agenda 111 Hospitals project has been stalled by the NDC. If the NPP were in power now, these hospitals would have been completed to boost healthcare in the country”.
He also said the Free Senior High School (SHS) social intervention policy, introduced by the NPP to improve the education system, is also suffering under the NDC regime.
“The free SHS policy used to be vibrant under the NPP but due to bad management by President Mahama and his team of incompetent people the famous policy is now struggling”.
Dr. Bawumia, who did not show any mercy to the NDC administration, also blasted President Mahama for making illegal mining, which destroys the environment, to flourish.
He also condemned the NDC for operating under two different justice systems now, saying “A country cannot thrive with two different justice systems operating at the same time.
“Under NDC government, one justice system is for the NDC and the other justice system is being used terrorize people that the government perceives as political opponents”.
He mentioned the strange manner in which Manhyia South MP, Baffuor Awuah was arrested, saying “this is an example of NDC using the law to intimidate their political opponents”.
According to Dr. Bawumia, no matter what the NDC would do, especially in intimidating their opponents, they (NDC) will lose the 2028 elections, saying “The NDC can’t succeed”.
He said the NPP is the clear favourite to win the 2028 elections, so he advised the NPP members to unite as one family with a common destiny and win the 2028 polls.
