THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has eulogized the Vice-President of the Republic, Dr Mahamodu Bawumia for committing and ensuring that the Kumasi Central Mosque was refurbished and expanded to modern standard.
Addressing the Muslim community, chiefs, government officials and the public at the official commissioning ceremony of the refurbished mosque, the Asante Overlord said the Veep was the first to inform him about his determination to renovate the old structure into what pertains now.
According to the Asantehene, the Vice Pre
sident felt the old structure did not reflect the history and importance of the worship center to the Islamic Faith.
‘’Our special thanks and gratitude must go to our grandson, the Vice President of the Republic, Dr Mahamodu Bawumia who first informed me of his determination to give Kumasi a mosque that would better reflect its status’’, Otumfuo stated.

The Asantehene said having seen the commitment of the Veep to refurbishing the old Mosque, he gave Dr Bawumia his blessings.
Otumfuo noted that the Vice President kept him updated with progress of work including the designs and mode of construction as well as timelines.
The Asantehene said he monitored Dr Bawumia who at times sneaked into Kumasi to personally oversee the construction process.
“I gave him my blessing and he has kept me updated from the design stage through the building stage. I monitored him sneak into Kumasi incognito to personally oversee construction’’, Otumfuo stated.

The King said the project bears testimony of the commitment of the Veep to the development of Kumasi especially to Muslims who would particularly use the Mosque for worship.
He noted that the work has been done through love and hoped such display by the Veep and all persons involved would be emulated by all.
‘’I am sure it has been a labor of love, satisfying a noble cause. This mosque will forever stand as tribute to his commitment and dedication’’, Otumfuo commended Dr Bawumia.
