KNUST Students On Rampage

Less than 1 minute Minutes

WINDSCREENS OF some cars have been smashed by irate students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

This follows violent clashes between students of the Katanga and Unity Halls of the Kumasi-based university on Thursday evening.

What sparked the unexpected and needless violent clashes on the hitherto peaceful university campus is not immediately known by Press1News.

However, it took the intervention of scores of armed policemen, who were dispatched to the university, before calm was eventually restored.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police Command have assured that they are in total control of the security situation in the university now.

A post on social media, authored by ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, said investigations to arrest the suspects of the riots are underway.

“The Police have restored calm on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology following violent clashes between students of the Katanga and Unity Halls of the University.

“The Police are in firm control of the situation and investigation is ongoing to arrest those behind this unfortunate, needless and unjustifiable attacks and bring them to face justice.

“We therefore urge all law-abiding members of the university community to remain calm and support the police as we deal with the situation”, he wrote.
