GDCL CEO Visits Asante Akyem North EC Registration Centre…Encourages Residents To Show Interest In Exercise

Less than 1 minute Minutes

Hon Kwadwo Baah Agyemang,  Chief Executive Officer for the Ghana Digital Centers Limited (GDCL) on Friday morning paid a visit to the Asante Akyem North Registration Centre to observe proceedings in the ongoing limited registration exercise.

Hon Agyemang, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area was welcomed to the Registration centre by Mr Francis Ohene Komfa, Municipal Director of Electoral Services for Asante Akyem North.

In his succinct remarks, Hon Agyemang said, “as a responsible state official and interested party in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the NPP it was important that I showed interest in the ongoing Registration exercise”.

“This limited registration exercise is an important national assignment by the Electoral Commission which will enable persons who have now attained the age of 18 years to register as well as others who may be beyond 18 years but have not registered to also do so and  participate in any national elections. I therefore encourage all persons who have not taken the opportunity to register to do so from now till the 2nd October”, the GDCL CEO stated.

Electoral Officer:

Mr Francis Ohene Komfa, Municipal Director of EC for Asante Akyem North thanked the former MP for the visit.

He noted that the exercise which was in its 11th day had been smooth so far, adding that representatives of the two dominant parties, the NPP and NDC had conducted themselves very well throughout.

The EC Director said 1,378 persons had been registered by his officers for ten days and stated that the EC expects to register at least 3,000 persons at the end of the exercise on 2nd October.

“We are hopeful to register about 3000 persons due to the figures we keep getting since we started and despite the occasional network issues that come up our machines have served us well so far. I also would want to thank the NPP and NDC leadership for helping us to have a peaceful atmosphere all the days of the registration”, Mr Komfa stated.

Political Party Heads:

Kofi Owusu Nyantakyi, First Vice Chairman of the NPP told this reporter that the registration exercise had been very peaceful and smooth.

He revealed that before the exercise both the NPP and NDC met to discuss ways to make the process less confrontational.

On his part,  Peter Abaje, NDC constituency Chairman said the two parties even discussed ways to transport their members who are 18 years and above from the hinterlands especially from the Afram Plains communities.

He added that the EC officials had also comported themselves very well and this, he noted, has enabled a peaceful process.

Assistance:

Meanwhile as a sign of support to ensure persons who have been assigned duties in the registration exercise do so well, Hon Kwadwo Baah Agyemang donated an amount of GhC 10, 000 to the NPP constituency executives.

Receiving the amount, 2nd Vice Chairman of the party,  Mr Alex Asumadu thanked the former MP for the gesture.

He noted that the gesture was timely since there were many issues they were dealing with in the ongoing exercise.

“For some of us we know your heart for this party, particularly this constituency having been MP before and we are glad that once again you have shown us kindness”, Mr Asumadu stated.
