A GROUP in the Agona-Asamang community of the Ashanti Region by name Concerned Royals is appealing to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II to help resolve the chieftaincy dispute in their area.

The group at a press conference on Wednesday morning said the situation was currently brewing tension among the rival gates.

The spokesperson for the group, Samuel Kwakwa noted that both the Adako royal family backed by Nsutamanhemaa and the rightful occupant of the Queen’s stool, Nana Boaduwaa are responsible for the simmering tensions.

He noted that the earlier the feuding factions are brought to sit and resolve the issue, the better for the citizens of the land.

“We believe that the earlier Otumfuo steps into this matter the better it would be for us because the tensions the dispute is brewing can explode anytime if we fail to douse the flames”, the spokesperson intimated.

Remedial Actions:

The spokesperson proposed that a fact finding committee be set up by Otumfuo to investigate the issues of the land.

He also called for the settlement of whose right it is to choose the next chief of Asamang, a community which is politically under the Effiduase District but traditionally under the Nsuta traditional council.

Currently, the spokesperson said no development project goes on in the community because of the conflict.

“We are being deprived of the development we deserve due to the conflict and we believe the intervention of the Overlord of Asanteman would cure this problem and help us to live in peace which is the catalyst for development and progress”, the spokesperson stated.

Giving a background to the conflict, the spokesperson said one Opanyin Korankye Ababio who is acting as family head wants to have his way of things in the traditional settings.

Backed by the Nsutamanhemaa, the spokesperson said Opanyin Korankye recently destooled the Queen mother, Nana Adwoa Boaduwaa.

Meanwhile, the Queen had been chosen and occupying her position as such, the spokesperson stated.

The spokesperson said the crime of Nana Boaduwaa was that she protested the manner a new Chief was to be chosen.

“As I address you today, majority of residents  in Asamang who are mostly youthful are on the side of our Queen mother, Nana Boaduwaa,  and if the Opanin Korankye faction continues to stop her from the performance of her duties there could be bloodshed soon”, the spokesperson hinted.
