THE KUMASI Mayor, Sam Pyne has publicly stated his admiration for the Vice-President of the Republic, adding that he was ready to campaign and subsequently cast his ballot for him in the upcoming flag-bearer elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Oyerepa fm, monitored by Press1News, the Kumasi Mayor said he had been an admirer of the Vice President since he formally joined the NPP having been the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Hon Pyne disclosed that his love for Dr Mahamodu Bawumia shot up from the time he defended the NPP in the famous supreme Court case where the NPP challenged the outcome of the 2012 General elections.
“Maybe it is on your radio that this would be news but those who know me and have related well with me know that I admire Dr Bawumia and I am a fan of his, something I have stated publicly on radio and on countless occasions”, the Kumasi Mayor stated.
Illogical Argument:
The Kumasi Mayor described as illogical an argument the host, Nana Yaw Joel advanced that long service should be rewarded at all cost in the upcoming presidential election.
Hon Pyne averred that competence, commitment and hard work should rather be rewarded at all times alongside long service.
He posited that one could serve for long but in a lackadaisical manner, noting that those who display competence, commitment and love for the NPP should be voted for during elections.
“If the argument is that only long service should be rewarded then perhaps I should be made the President of Ghana because I was elected first NPP ward secretary for Tarkwa, Maakro and Anomaanye Nkwanta on the 24th of August 1992 and have since served in various capacities of NPP including the recent one as Regional Secretary for Ashanti”, the Mayor rebutted.
Campaign:
The Kumasi Mayor indicated his readiness to publicly campaign for the Vice President when he finally and publicly states so.
Hon Pyne said the Vice President has demonstrated competence at every level since joining the party and was fitting to lead same.
He stated that the Veep’s communication skills, competence as a learned Economist, commitment to the party and human relations stand him out from those seeking to contest in the upcoming flag-bearer election of the NPP.
“Some of us are waiting for Dr Bawumia to formally declare his intention and launch his campaign so we can join with every strength we have and collectively work to ensure he is selected as the party’s flag-bearer for the 2024 presidential election”, the Mayor stressed.
