KMA, Port Of Spain Sign MOU

Story:

THE KUMASI Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the city of Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago.

The agreement is envisaged to begin bilateral relations the two cities initially entered some years back which unfortunately was not operationalized.

The official signing of the MOU will take place in Kumasi, the capital of Kumasi on Friday, October 28, 2022.

Arriving in Kumasi on Tuesday evening with a four member team, Mayor of Port of Spain, Joel Martinez said he was upbeat about having a workable agreement with the KMA.

‘’I am happy coming back to Kumasi to seal an agreement where both the people of Port of Spain in Trinidad and Kumasi could benefit from including our socio-cultural resources and values’’, Mayor Martinez stated.

Kumasi Mayor:

Speaking to this reporter, Mayor for Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne expressed delight at having the opportunity to explore both the human and natural resource potentials of both cities for the benefit of its people.

He welcomed the team from Port of Prince and wished them a good stay in the metropolis, adding that the KMA would offer every assistance to make their stay comfortable.

Hon Pyne noted that Trinidad and Tobago share so much in common with Ghana especially with the city of Kumasi, stressing that the two cities would explore their similarities and uniqueness for optimum benefits to their peoples.

‘’To see the team from Port of Spain fired up for this new relationship I am equally happy to lead Kumasi to begin, harness and utilize the opportunities from the agreement to improve the lives of our people’’, the Mayor stated.

Background:

Port of Spain is a city on the northwest side of Trinidad and Tobago and is the capital city of the Caribbean Island.

It is known for its huge carnival with calypso and Caribbean soca music.

The city shares borders with the expansive Queen’s Park Savannah and the Royal Botanic Gardens which displays plants from all over the world.

Delegation:

Accompanying the Mayor of Port of Spain to Kumasi were Alderman Wendell Stephen, Chairman Physical Infrastructure, Councillor Nicole Young, Chairman Community Development and Social Services.

The others were, Councillor Abena Hartley, Chairman Strategic and Local Economic Development and Councillor Clint Baptiste, Chairman Tourism, Culture and the Arts.
