KMA has begun demolition work in earnest to clear the right of way for the next phase of the Suame Interchange.
By 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, a joint security task force and KMA personnel with a bulldozer were deployed to Abrepo Junction to enforce the eviction in line with city directives and the contractor’s specifications.
The exercise follows an earlier inspection on August 25, when the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Boadi, led road engineers to the affected areas to brief residents on the evacuation plan.
Subsequently, KMA’s Public Relations Unit directed traders and garage owners along the Abrepo and Wesco corridors to vacate by September 7, 2026.
That deadline was later extended to Tuesday, October 7, in a final notice issued on October 1, to give affected persons more time.
A day before the demolition operation, the Mayor defied heavy rains to lead a task force to the site to issue a final warning.
Most occupants had complied voluntarily before the demolition, while recalcitrant traders had their temporary structures, billboards and tables pulled down to make way for the project.
