FIVE SEVERELY injured fire fighters are now battling for their lives in hospital at Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region, it has been announced.

This follows the crashing of a fire tender, which was on its way to battle a fire outbreak at a residential apartment at Kyekyewere, in Obuasi.

The driver of the speeding fire tender realized that the Obuasi Stadium Junction road had been partially blocked for ongoing construction works.

The driver then tried to swerve the vehicle to avert a possible crash but the truck, filled with water to the brim, veered from the road and somersaulted.

The incident, which happened around 10:35am on Sunday, attracted scores of people to the scene, who rescued all eight fire fighters onboard the car.

Some Good Samaritans then rushed all the eight fire fighters to the hospital for immediate medical attention in order to help save their lives.

The Ashanti Regional Fire PRO, DO3 Peter Addai, said all the eight people onboard the car, including the driver, got injured after the accident.

According to him, the injured personnel were rushed to the Obuasi Government Hospital and the AGA Health Foundation Hospital for treatment.

DO3 Addai disclosed that two of the injured fire fighters were treated and discharged the same day and the remaining six were hospitalized.

“Five out of six injured personnel are in critical condition and they are on admission”, he said “the mangled fire tender has been towed to Kumasi for repairs”.
