120 Brilliant But Needy Students Secure Scholarships From MTN Foundation

MTN Ghana Foundation Foundation has saved 120 brilliant students who for genuine reasons would have dropped out of school by now owing to financial constraints.

At a brief ceremony today in Kumasi on Friday, the second batch of 60 students were outdoored as beneficiaries of the Bright Scholarship Awards.

The first 60 were presented with their awards at the MTN House in Accra.

This figure makes it 120 for this year’s Bright Scholarship Awards christened the “Bright Scholarships Reloaded.”

Background:

The MTN Bright Scholarship seeks to ease the financial burden on students by catering for the cost of tuition, accommodation, laptop and stipend for each semester.

Foundation Board Member:

MTN Foundation Board Member, Samuel Koranteng said in all, they received about 1,900 applications from 17 Public Institutions.

He added that 200 applicants were shortlisted for the scholarship interview saying out of 200 shortlisted, they finally settled on 120 students for the 2023 Bright Scholarship Awards.

Mr Koranteng noted that this year’s award focused more on STEM, Computer Science, Vocational students, Persons with Disability and students in the Six (6) newly created regions among other factors.

He stressed that MTN is committed to providing opportunities for brilliant and needy students to receive an education that will enhance their livelihoods.

“We hope that this year’s edition of Bright Scholarship will touch the lives of students who are in need of financial assistance to complete their education”.

Encouragement:

Mr Koranteng encouraged beneficiaries to take their studies seriously to make themselves, parents, MTN and the nation proud.

The MTN Foundation Board Member gave assurance that they would continue to invest in education, health, economic empowerment among others.

Brief:

MTN Bright Scholarship was launched in 2018 to provide financial assistance for needy students in public tertiary institutions.

MTN Bright Scholarship falls under the education focus area of the MTN Ghana Foundation, which is one of the three focus areas of the MTN Ghana Foundation.

Aside the Bright Scholarship initiative, the Foundation has over the years, awarded over 1000 scholarships to students from basic school to tertiary level.

Since the launch of the MTN Foundation in 2007, the Foundation has invested in over 90 educational projects across the country.

Some of these projects include the construction of a 600-bed dormitory block for Tamale Senior High School, a multipurpose library at Dansoman, a Telecom Laboratory for GIMPA, a six-unit classroom block for Nhyiaeso basic school, a 3-unit classroom block for Mangoase Basic School, among others
