Zulu King to host Kotoko SC
The King of the Zulu Nation and Monarch of KwaZulu-Natal, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, is set to host Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC in South Africa next week.
Kotoko will play South African giants Kaizer Chiefs in the second edition of Toyota Cup on July 26, 2025, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The Club’s Interim Management Committee chairman, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, has confirmed their visit to the revered monarch.
The Kotoko IMC chairman, who is also Kontomponiaferehene, is expected to lead the club’s contingent to the palace of the Zulu King in this historic visit.
Although Kotoko are going to South Africa for a football trophy challenge, the invitation from the Zulu King will promote and foster cultural exchange between the Asante Kingdom and the Zulu Nation.
Kotoko lost 2-3 on penalties to Kaizer Chiefs in the Vodafone Challenge Cup in after a pulsating goalless draw in regulation time in 2001 at Kings Park, Durban.
The two-time African champions, Kotoko are promising to redeem its image in the second edition of the Toyota Cup.
