The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua has distanced the party from comments made by Kwaku Asante Boateng, MP for Asante Akyem South.
Speaking to this reporter, Lawyer Kodua described the comment targeted at Dr Bawumia as “unfortunate”.
The General Secretary said the NPP was committed to national unity and equality.
“Remarks attributed to Kwaku Asante Boateng, Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, did not reflect the values of the NPP and that the party disassociates itself from them”, Lawyer Kodua stressed.
Details:
The General noted that the NPP was founded on principles of inclusivity, equality and cohesion.
He therefore cautioned that such distasteful and substandard characterisation would not be countenanced in the NPP.
“The NPP reiterates its longstanding commitment to inclusivity, equality, and national cohesion,” the General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong affirmed.
He noted that political membership and recognition within the NPP are not defined by personal attributes or identity, but by one’s loyalty, commitment, and service to the Party’s ideals and the national interest.
Party’s Ideals:
The General Secretary reiterated that the NPP was founded on the principles of freedom, justice, democracy, and equal opportunity.
He stated that the party would continue to uphold those values to ensure that all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or social background, can participate in national development.
“As a Party of unity and progress, the NPP assures the Ghanaian people that it will continue to uphold the dignity of every citizen and promote a political culture anchored in tolerance, respect, and inclusiveness,” Lawyer Kodua posited.
Clarification:
Meanwhile at the time of going to press, the MP for Asante Akyem South had released a statement clarifying the comments he is said to have made.
He said no malice or ill will was intended but a historical account was traced by his humble self about the person he mentioned.
