We’ll sustain pressure on government over cocoa price reduction—Francis Adomako reveals

2 Minutes

Francis Adomako, the Ashanti Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that the Minority Group in Parliament will maintain relentless pressure on the government until Ghanaian cocoa farmers receive fair compensation for their labor.

Speaking to the press during a tour of cocoa-growing regions alongside the NPP Parliamentary Caucus, Mr. Adomako expressed satisfaction with the progress of their outreach.

He emphasized that the tour provided a vital platform for farmers to voice their frustrations and allowed leadership to gain a firsthand understanding of the challenges facing the industry.

Engaging Grassroots:

“I commend the NPP Caucus for embarking on these tours to listen to the concerns of farmers who have been hit hard by the recent price reductions,” Mr. Adomako stated.

“We will ensure this feedback is acted upon as we continue to demand that the government pays what is rightfully due to our farmers.”

The Regional Organiser revealed that the NPP’s Ashanti regional wing has developed a strategic roadmap to build upon the work started by the Minority Group.

These plans include:

Continuous Engagement:
Maintaining a presence in cocoa-growing communities even after the official parliamentary tour concludes.

Farm-Gate Consultations:

Visiting farmers directly on their land to keep the dialogue active and transparent.

Economic Advocacy:

Highlighting the link between cocoa revenues and social mobility, noting that many residents in the Ashanti region owe their education and livelihoods to the industry.

“Many of us are beneficiaries of the education we received only because our family members in cocoa farming invested their earnings into our future,” Mr. Adomako remarked.

Farmer Incentives:

Beyond political advocacy, Mr. Adomako stressed the need for tangible support.

He noted that witnessing the distress caused by current pricing policies has been difficult, prompting a call for the party to mobilize resources for the farmers.

“While we engage and encourage our hardworking cocoa farmers, it is only prudent that we offer them any support we can mobilize to motivate them,” he intimated.

“This will ensure they continue their essential work for the Ashanti Region and Mother Ghana”, Mr Adomako noted.
