Speaking to this reporter over the weekend, Lawyer Kodua said the arrest of its communication member popularly called “Adenta Kumi” and the ransacking of the home of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman were part of plans to intimidate the NPP.

He noted that the plan by the John Mahama administration is to use these intimidatory tricks to cow the NPP into submission.

“How on earth do you arrest a private citizen for airing his views on a national issue and had even gone ahead to provide to you a petition warranting his call for the dissolution of the committee set up to probe the actions of Mrs Gertrude Torkonoo, the Chief Justice of Ghana”, the General Secretary quizzed.

Wontumi Issue:

The NPP General Secretary wondered why after extending an invitation to the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, the security agencies still went ahead to ransack his home.

Lawyer Kodua said there is nothing stopping the security agencies from commencing their duties when they have reasons to do so.

However, he stated it was against the fundamental human rights of citizens to be tormented in their homes by the use of state security agencies who should rather be protecting them from harm.

“It is surprising that having complied with you that he would be coming to answer your invitation, the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) still sent men wielding guns to ransack the home of Chairman Wontumi”, the NPP General Secretary stated.

Readiness:

Meanwhile, Lawyer Kodua popularly known as JFK has reiterated the NPPs strategy to prevent the security agencies from being used to harass its members.

He noted that the NPP would use all legitimate and legal routes to stop the intimidation by the Mahama government.

The General Secretary reminded President Mahama that governments are elected into office to solve issues confronting the populace and not to target a section of the political divide and intimidate them.

“The NPP with our members are resolute to defend ourselves in the face of these intimidation by the John Mahama administration and we will do so with all the legitimate force available to us”, the General Secretary cautioned.
