SOME TOP government officials are feared dead following the crash of a military helicopter at Sikaman Brofoyedu near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday morning.
The plane was from Accra and heading towards Obuasi, where the president was expected to launch a national Community Mining Programme.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the helicopter, perhaps, developed a fault as it crashed heavily in a farm, igniting a dangerous fire in the process.
People on board the plane are still not known by Press1News but it’s being speculated that certain top government officials, including Dr. Omane Boamah, the Defense Minister, were in the helicopter.
A video of burnt human bodies at the crash scene has since gone viral on social media, sparking fears that indeed some top government officials may have died.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Airforce, in a press release, has confirmed the missing of a military helicopter, which was heading to Obuasi. They, however, did not state any deaths.
“A GAF helicopter Z9 that took off this morning at 0912hrs from Accra and heading for Obuasi is currently off the radar. All efforts are being made to establish contact.
“On board were 3 crew members and 5 passengers. Further details to be communicated soon”, the report signed by Veronica Adzo Arhin, Captain (Ghana Navy) Acting Director General Public Relations, read.
