Hon Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister has urged the public especially women and girls to report any unusual occurences they find in their breasts to the hospital for examination and care.
Speaking at the end of the 2024 ” BCI Race For The Cure Walk” at the Afrane Okese Park in Ejisu on Saturday, MR Mensah said early diagnosis and treatment of the breasts can save people from getting full blown cases of breast cancer.
He noted that those who fail to report early signs for diagnosis and treatment tend to suffer when the symptoms turn into full blown cancers.
“I urge all of us to learn the lesson Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai has always taught us by reporting abnormalities we find in our breasts early since such action leads to having early diagnosis and care at the hospital”, Mr Osei-Mensah stated.
President of Breast Care International:
Speaking at the event, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, famous cancer surgeon, President of BCI and organiser of the annual national walk, thanked the Regional Minister for showing interest in educating and attending all the awareness creation ceremonies of BCI as well as participating in all the walks done in Ashanti.
She advised the public to take serious issues they find with their breasts including abnormalities they find.
Dr Wiafe said Breast Cancer was wreaking havoc on the African continent and therefore sensitization efforts such as the Walk For The Cure should be supported by all.
“I am happy that we’ve all shown interest in Breast Cancer awareness creation efforts and today we are here climaxing the major sensitization drive and i pray that as parents, husbands and students we take the lessons we’ve drawn here to our homes that early diagnosis of any health abnormality has the potential to save lives”, Dr Wiafe Addai stressed.
Ejisu Queen:
Nana Yaa Asantewaa II, Queen of Ejisu thanked Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai for choosing her community for the 2024 BCI Walk for the Cure.
She noted that breast cancer awareness creation efforts should be supported by all in the country.
Nana Yaa Asantewaa said many still did not know treatment regimes were available for those who report abnormalities in the breasts early to the hospital.
“The breast is an important part of the body of humans especially women and so i thank Dr Wiafe Addai for carrying out sensitization efforts for over two decades so that we can be aware of the dangers of cancers as well as get to know the treatment modules which are available for those who report symptoms early”, the Queen stated.
Walk For the Cure:
Starting the walk from the Ejisuman Senior High School premises, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai who was joined by the Ashanti Regional Minister and other visiting Professors and Doctors from Ghana as well as others from the John Hopkins University meandered their way through to the Afrane Okese Park in some two hours.
Joined by several secondary high school students, breast cancer survivors, security agencies and other groups and individuals, the participants displayed placards and flyers calling attention to the dangers of cancers including breast cancer as well as the message of early diagnosis.
Supported with brand band music throughout the walk, the participants sang heartily and danced to the tunes from the drummers until they reached the grounds for the climaxing activities.
At the durbar grounds, some selected schools with their cadets entertained the crowd to exciting military drills and dancing skills.
There were also some spectacular music and dance performances from the Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Brother Sammy and Akosua Agyepong, whose energy level displayed in her dancing is still being examined.
