Kande Seidu, a food vendor at Alabar Market in Kumasi, has been sentenced to 20 days in prison custody for using open fire in the market.

She was sentenced by a District Court Two at Prempeh Assembly Hall, presided over by Her Worship Deborah Gyawa Donkor on Monday, March 16, 2026.

According to the prosecutor, Kande and her sibling, Fati Seidu, had wantonly disregarded several warnings and abatement notices from the Environmental Health Unit of the KMA.

On January 15, 2026, Kande and Fati were summoned by the court for violating Sections 27 and 29 of the KMA Public Market By-Laws (2020).

While Kande and Fati were at the courtroom on February 23, 2026, Kande left voluntarily because the court had failed to call her case on time, but Fati stayed and pleaded guilty to the offence.

Fati was fined 1,200 cedis, equivalent to 100 unit counts for her offence.

The court issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kande, hence her prison sentence.
